In Niger, many soldiers lost their lives in an attack on their base near Teguey, in the Tillaberi region of Bankilare.

The attack, which occurred yesterday, also wounded several soldiers, while more than 30 are reported missing.

The worsening security situation, which the soldiers cited as one of their reasons for overthrowing former President Mohamed Bazoum, is escalating. A recent report indicated that the number of people killed in attacks in Niger has doubled compared to the same period last year.

Preliminary reports mention that at least 21 soldiers died in yesterday's complex attack.

Armed individuals, believed to be fighters from the IS group, carried out the assault, resulting in 27 soldiers wounded and reports of 34 missing.

Furthermore, the attackers managed to destroy several military assets, including 5 armored vehicles and 4 gun trucks.

The IS group continues to attack civilians in the Tillabery region, engaging in kidnappings, killings, and extortion.

Experts say the group is expanding its influence eastward, and into the northern parts of the Dosso region and the southern parts of the Tahoua region, positioning ISIS as an increasing threat to the country's security and a rival in governance.

With its ongoing activities, including attacks on security forces, laying IEDs on roads, and targeting supply convoys from Burkina and Mali to Niger, ISIS's attacks are exacerbating the security crisis in the central Sahel region.
