Dani Alves has been granted bail.

The Barcelona High Court has decided to grant former Barcelona footballer Dani Alves bail set at one million euros. This decision comes as his appeals against a four-and-a-half-year prison sentence for raping a young woman in a Barcelona nightclub are being considered. 

 

Under the conditions of his release, Alves must remain in the country, surrender both his Spanish and Brazilian passports, and make weekly court appearances. Despite opposition from the prosecution and private accusers at a hearing on Tuesday in Barcelona's 21st section, the court sided with Alves' defense. The defense argued for his release on the basis that he has already served a quarter of the sentence handed down for the rape, leading to his release from pre-trial detention that began in January of the previous year.
